Assistant/Associate Professor in Clinical Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging, Academic Clinician

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Mar 28, 2023
Deadline:

The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in Clinical Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. This position within the Section of Radiology will be in the University's Academic Clinician (AC) track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate is expected to have history of or potential as an exemplary clinician and educator. Faculty members in the AC track are primarily devoted to clinical service (42 weeks a year) in the Matthew J Ryan Veterinary Hospital and participate in the clinical instruction of veterinary students, interns, and radiology residents. Time away from clinical service is used for professional development, citizenship to the Department, and didactic teaching. Developing or maintaining an independent scholarship or research program is not a focus of the AC track, is not a requirement for reappointment or promotion, and should not detract from excellence in clinical service and teaching. If desired, there is ample opportunity for participation in clinical research. The AC track is a long-term, non-tenured Associated Faculty position with reappointment every three years. Promotion along the ladder of the University Academic ranks is available.

In addition to working in a dynamic hospital setting with excellent support staff, the advantages of the position include an exciting intellectual environment with outstanding residents and collaborative faculty boarded in surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation, dentistry, critical care, anesthesiology, radiology, medical and radiation oncology, internal medicine, neurology, and cardiology. The successful candidate will be joining a group of at least three other board-certified radiologists. Two 4th year diagnostic imaging residents also contribute to hospital coverage, serving a similar role as would junior faculty.

The University provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes multiple options for retirement savings and tuition benefits for the candidate's spouse or dependent children. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual who enjoys working in a vibrant urban environment with an abundance of cultural resources, including music, art, theatres, and fine dining (www.upenn.edu/life-at-penn/philadelphia).

Philadelphia offers easy access to New York and Washington DC. Additionally, Wissahickon Valley Park, Valley Forge National Park, and many more recreational amenities are within minutes of the city. The University of Pennsylvania is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

Qualifications
Candidates must have a veterinary degree, have completed an American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) or European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI)-approved radiology residency training program and must have achieved certification - or be eligible to sit the examination for board certification - in either the ACVR or ECVDI. Documented excellence in radiology clinical instruction and extensive experience in cross-sectional imaging (CT/MRI) are particularly valued. Successful applicants will oversee studies involving radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography and MRI. Supervision of current radiology residents on clinics is expected. Some didactic teaching of 1st-3rd year veterinary students is also expected.

Application Instructions
The search committee will begin considering applications immediately and applications will be reviewed until an appropriate candidate is identified.
